M.A. Degree Program
The department offers two MA plans (see p. 6 of the Handbook).
Plan A
50 hours of graduate credit (including 715), with a minimum of 30 hours in the Department of History of Art; two Qualifying Papers (hereafter QP) in two different fields, and two two-hour exams in these fields (total=four hours).
Plan B
45 hours of graduate credit (including 715) with a minimum of 30 hours in the Department of History of Art; a three-hour field examination; a thesis; and a one-hour oral examination on the thesis.
Time Limitations
All requirements must be completed within 6 quarters of regular (non-summer) enrollment. Under special circumstances, the Graduate Studies Committee may extend this limitation, but if the extension exceeds more than two additional years the student may be required to retake the written examinations before graduation. Credits beyond those required for the MA may be transferred toward the PhD on petition to the Graduate Studies Committee.
