HISTORY OF ART4010: METHODS AND THEORIES
This class is intended to introduce History of Art majors and other interested students to the various texts, theories, and “methods” that have shaped the practice of art history. By the end of the semester, you should have acquired a greater understanding of both the history of the discipline and the theoretical conceptions of art underlying the different approaches taken over the past century or so to specific works. The goal is that, in the process, you will also become self-conscious about your own interests and commitments, and therefore attentive to the theoretical implications of the kind(s) of art-historical writing you do.
