The closing celebration of the exhibition, “Oppositions: Art and Power in the Vietnam Era," organized by Daniel Marcus, Roy Lichtenstein Curatorial Fellow at Columbus Museum of Art and History of Art Lecturer is this Sunday, February 9th, at 3pm.
Drawn from the American collection of the Columbus Museum of Art, Oppositions: Art and Power in the Vietnam Era explores the diverse ways artists approached questions of power and authority during the Vietnam War. This installation emphasizes the close relationship between art and politics during a period of cultural crisis, and includes works by Benny Andrews, Leon Golub, Vija Celmins, and the Art Workers Coalition, among others. The idea for this project grew out of Danny's graduate seminar, “After 1968,” and owes much to the insights of the History of Art students who participated in the class: Julie Dentzer, Karin Flora, Stephanie Kang, Allie Mickle, Hannah Slater, Anna Talarico, and Eunice Uhm.
