Signs of Remembering: Women’s Resistance in Middle Eastern and North African Documentaries
Past and present collide in six films that chronicle the essential role of women in fighting for their own emancipation across generations. Signs of Remembering: Women’s Resistance in Middle Eastern and North African Documentaries gathers an intergenerational group of filmmakers whose work brings visibility to vital but suppressed histories. The series explores stories and issues that emerge out of the overlapping movements for women’s liberation, labor rights, and decolonization in the Middle East and North Africa. Each film turns to question official narratives—ultimately challenging their gaps and fissures—to envision more just futures.
This film event was co-organized by PhD Student Dareen Hussein and Layla Muchnik-Benali.
