PhD Candidate Karin Flora travelled to Lyon, France to present at the 36th Comité International d'Histoire de l'Art World Congress with the theme of “Matter, Materiality” which convened from June 23 -28 with attendees from 54 countries. Karin presented her dissertation chapter on Raphael’s Louvre painting L’Abondance entitled, “Roman Goddess and Mary: Material Mediation at the Threshold of Contrasting Worlds,” as part of the session, “Painting the Materials, Imitating the Techniques. A Dialogue between Mediums in Early Modern Art.” Karin was also able to glean from the cultural heritage of Lyon by visiting its Museum of Fine Arts, Museum of Printing, Cinema Museum, and by viewing a demonstration of historical weaving practices at the silk-worker’s guild. This trip was generously funded by the Sara Jane Pyne Memorial Fund and the Murnane Travel Fund.
