The cover of the exhibition catalogue: Spectrum of Desire: Love, Sex, and Gender in the Middle Ages

Professor Karl Whittington published a short essay, “Touching Saint Sebastian,” in the catalogue of the new show opening at the Metropolitan Museum of Art (the Met Cloisters) in October 2025 called “Spectrum of Desire: Love, Sex, and Gender in the Middle Ages.” The catalogue, published by Yale University Press, offers a reframing of the field of medieval art through the lens of queer theory, and was edited by Melanie Holcomb and Nancy Thebaut, with contributions from five other scholars. The show opens in New York on October 17.
