Professors Aranke and Jones, co-conveners of the Samella Lewis Initiative, are featured contributors to the exhibition “Dewey Crumpler: Life Studies” now on view at the David C. Driskell Center for the Study of the Visual Arts and Culture of African Americans and the African Diaspora, which is part of the University of Maryland.

The show, guest curated by Aranke, features the work of Dewey Crumpler, an artist and teacher based in the San Francisco Bay Area, and includes both works on paper and large mixed-media paintings. The exhibition catalogue features an essay by Jones, whose research on Crumpler locates the artist’s work in relation to a broader Black radical aesthetic tradition. The show is open through December 10.
