PhD candidate Alanna Radlo-Dzur has accepted a Research Specialist position at the Getty Research Institute to work on the Digital Florentine Codex Initiative. She will be identifying concepts, objects and individuals found in more than 2,000 images included in the sixteenth-century Florentine Codex manuscript, incorporating related Nahuatl language terminology into the Getty's vocabularies used by archivists and museums around the globe as a standard for cataloguing collection materials. Introducing terms of a major indigenous language of the Mesoamerican region into the Getty's vocabularies represents an important and necessary step towards decolonizing institutions' catalogues and will provide a framework for future work of this type.
