PhD Candidate Allie Mickle Travels to Hong Kong to Conduct Dissertation Research at the Asia Art Archive

Allie Mickle at the Asia Art Archive

In May 2023, PhD Candidate Allie Mickle traveled to Hong Kong to conduct research in support of her dissertation project at the Asia Art Archive (AAA), a library and collection of modern and contemporary Asian art. At AAA she was able to access exhibition ephemera and out-of-print books that informed her research on contemporary Chinese video art, particularly on the career of Cao Fei, one of the central artists considered in her dissertation.

While in Hong Kong, Allie had the opportunity to explore the M+ Museum’s video art collection over several days. She also had the opportunity to visit exhibitions at Tai Kwun Contemporary, The Hong Kong Museum of Art, and Para Site Gallery, as well as connect with curators and arts professionals based in the city.

The trip was generously supported by the History of Art Department through the Aida Cannarsa Snow Endowment Award and the Murnane Travel Scholarship.
