PhD Candidate Liz Rae Heise-Glass Attends the Society for Cinema and Media Studies Conference in Boston
In March 2024, PhD Candidate Liz Rae Heise-Glass attended the Society for Cinema and Media Studies (SCMS) annual conference in Boston. At the conference, Liz was featured on a panel on the connections between the art world and the Boston PBS station, WGBH. Boston’s local PBS station, WGBH also served an early and significant incubator of artist-made television.
Liz presented research about works made with and presented by WGBH alongside Dr. Jeff Menne and Jared Ashburn (Oklahoma State University), and Dr. Ina Blom (University of Oslo). Liz’s paper “Music/Television: Experiments in Sound and Image in the 1980s” highlighted alternative approaches to the music video pioneered by artists including John Sanborn, Meredith Monk, Charles Atlas, and Branda Miller.
This trip was generously sponsored by the Pyne Memorial Scholarship and an Arts and Humanities Graduate School Research Small Grant.
