In May of 2025 PhD candidate Maggie Wilson traveled to the region around Lake Constance in Germany and Switzerland as well as Alsace, Germany and France to conduct research for her dissertation, “Making and Breaking Enclosure: The Movement of Art through the Late Medieval Convent.” Maggie visited the modern remnants of the medieval convent of St. Katharinenthal, studying how nuns navigated enclosure. Traveling in Switzerland and the border region between Germany and France, Maggie was able to view several important works of painting and sculpture for her dissertation project, including an altarpiece of the Annunciation as a unicorn hunt, and two sculptures portraying Jesus and his disciple John in a spiritual marriage.
