PhD Student April Riddle Conducts Research in Iceland, Italy, Germany, and Spain
April Riddle traveled to Iceland, Italy, Germany, and Spain during the month of July to conduct pre-dissertation research. With support from the History of Art Department, she visited the 59th Venice Biennale and documenta 15. At these exhibitions, April viewed many works relevant to her research on financialization, exchange, and gaming, such as LuYang’s DOKU - Digital Descending, ZK/U’s BeeCoin, and FAFSWAG’s FAFSWAGVOGUE.COM.
Additional highlights of her trip included exploring the Reykjavík Art Museum and its Erró: The Power of Images exhibition as well as the Museum of Contemporary Art of Barcelona and its current show featuring the work of Cinthia Marcelle. One notable work for April was Marcelle’s NO AR (versão SORTILÉGIO), a participatory project that invites visitors to restage plays by accessing a website from which they can broadcast songs, often in a clashing manner, to a room in the museum.
