PhD Student Cole J. Graham Presents Paper at Kansas Symposium

Cole J. Graham in Kansas

PhD Student Cole J. Graham traveled to Lawrence, Kansas last weekend for Distance and the In-Between, the 2023 graduate symposium held by the Kress Foundation Department of Art History at the University of Kansas. While there, he presented a paper entitled "Chasing Trains: On a Weeaboo Ethic in Petra Szemán’s Video Work." Cole has worked with the artist Petra Szemán (as well as scholar Jamie Sutcliffe) on the recently released book WEEB THEORY throughout the past year and has been incredibly lucky to become intimately familiar with their work, which takes place at the nexus of the animatic and the cinematic. He is grateful to the Sarah Jane Pyne Scholarship Award for the opportunity to share Szemán's world-building work with a wider US audience.
