Professor Karl Whittington Publishes Article in Gesta
Associate Professor and Department Chair Karl Whittington published an essay in Gesta, the Journal of the International Center of Medieval Art. The article, “Painting the Sculptural Body in Lucca and Florence: Intermediality in Croci Dipinte,” studies the interaction between painted and sculpted versions of the Crucifixion in 12th-14th century Italy, exploring a unique group of hybrid objects that include both painterly and sculptural materials and effects.
