Casey Carsel (they/them) is a PhD candidate in the History of Art at The Ohio State University, where they currently hold a University Fellowship. Their research applies a material culture lens to the study of Jewish apotropaics in early modern Eastern Europe. Their career as an artist and writer specializing in Jewish cultural history and textiles has garnered fellowships, grants, and residencies from institutions including Fulbright Ukraine, the New York Public Library, the Folger Shakespeare Library, and the Tides Institute & Museum of Art. They received a BFA (Hons) from the University of Auckland and an MFA in Writing from the School of the Art Institute of Chicago.
