Alumna Ariana Maki (PhD 2013) is currently on an NEH-Mellon Fellowship for Digital Publication for the project "Digital Biography: Teaching the Life of the Buddha Using Literature and Art." The fellowship will support the enhancement and expansion of content on the Life of the Buddha website.

The project brings together a unique body of extant 17th century murals and texts from the Tibetan Buddhist monastery Takten Puntsokling to create an open-access resource for the teaching of literature, religion, and visual culture associated with the life of Shakyamuni Buddha, whose life story constitutes the core of modern Buddhism.

This is the most recent award for this project, which has previously received significant funding from ACLS and the Robert H.N. Ho Family Foundation. Life of the Buddha was initiated by co-Project Directors Andrew Quintman (Wesleyan University) and Kurtis Schaeffer (University of Virginia).
