The department mourns the loss, several months ago, of Professor Emeritus Anne M. Morganstern. Anne was a beloved member of our department for many years, from the 1970s to the 2000s. Alongside her husband, Jim Morganstern, and several other faculty members, Anne was part of a vibrant community at Ohio State that trained students in medieval European art.

Anne’s research focused on northern European art of the twelfth to fifteenth centuries, with a particular focus on monumental sculpture, tomb sculpture, patronage, and heraldry. She is the author of several important books, including High Gothic Sculpture at Chartres Cathedral, the Tomb of the Count of Joigny, and the Master of the Warrior Saints (Penn State University Press, 2011) and Gothic Tombs of Kingship in France, the Low Countries, and England (Penn State University Press, 2000). Anne also published widely in major journals of the field, including The Art Bulletin, Speculum, Gesta, Bulletin Monumental, and many others. At Ohio State, Anne was an active and instrumental member of the Center for Medieval and Renaissance Studies (CMRS).

Anne is survived by her husband Jim, and will be greatly missed by her many friends, colleagues, and students around the world.
