PhD Candidate Dareen Hussein Travels to France to Conduct Archival Research
In December 2023, PhD candidate Dareen Hussein traveled to France to conduct archival research for her dissertation. In Paris, she compiled research on the Mouvement des travailleurs arabes (Arab Workers Movement) in the archives of Le Contemporain at Paris Nanterre University. She was also able to study and document key primary source materials from collections in the Bibliothèque nationale de France, Centre culturel algérien, and the archives of Sarah Maldoror. Dareen also attended a film retrospective on the Franco-Lebanese filmmaker Jocelyne Saab, who will be featured in her dissertation, as well as other exhibitions at the Centre Pompidou and Le Contemporain. This trip was generously supported by the Alumni Grants for Graduate Research and Scholarship (AGGRS) and the ASC Graduate Research Small Grant.
