PhD Student Sterling Nix Travels to London for 1-54ArtFair for Contemporary African Art

This October, PhD. Student Sterling Nix traveled to London to attend the 1-54ArtFair for Contemporary African Art. He focused on how artists incorporate issues of identity and migration into their work. Sterling was able to discuss this topic with both artists and curators. This research will aid his upcoming MA Thesis which centralizes the arts community in Accra, Ghana while exploring its global extensions pertaining to movement, identity, and performance.

In addition to the 1-54ArtFair, Sterling attended the Tate Modern’s exhibition of El Anatsui”s Behind The Red Moon; the BFI London Film Festival, ICA London, Camden Arts Center, and The National Gallery of Art.

This trip was generously supported by the Humanities Graduate Research Small Grant and the Mudrak Graduate Research Award.
