Kunimoto: "Tsujimura Kazuko and the Body Object"

Professor Namiko Kunimoto's article "Tsujimura Kazuko and the Body Object" was recently published in The Asia-Pacific Journal: Japan Focus. Her article focuses on the life and work of Tsujimura Kazuko, an avant-garde dancer in Japan who, through her work, communicated the ways in which the human body was objectified by society for the purpose of economic growth. Kunimoto examines Kazuko's utilization of her dance movements, costumes, and social behavior to dismantle the idea that humans could use their bodies as an expression of self agency.
