In March 2023, undergraduate student Lauren Marshall traveled to New York City to conduct research in support of her thesis, “The Tablescape: Food, Art and Politics.” With the generous support of an Arts Undergraduate Research Scholarship, Lauren visited the Brooklyn Museum to view Judy Chicago’s The Dinner Party in the Elizabeth A. Sackler Center for Feminist Art. Lauren was also able to conduct research in the libraries, special collections and archives of various research institutions across the city, such as the Met’s Thomas J. Watson Library and the New York Public Library along with the Brooklyn Museum. She also traveled to Bard College’s Center for Curatorial Studies in Annandale-on-Hudson, and had the opportunity to conduct research in the CCS Bard Library’s archives and special collections.

While in New York, Lauren also visited Wangechi Mutu’s “Intertwined” at the New Museum, Nick Cave’s “Forothermore” at the Guggenheim, and attended an exhibition opening at the gallery and alternative arts space White Columns. She plans to incorporate her research findings into her thesis.
