Hannah Slater specializes in modern and contemporary Japanese Art. She earned her BA in Art and Art History from DePaul University, her MA in Art History from the University of Illinois at Chicago, and PhD in History of Art from Ohio State University. Her dissertation examined artistic responses to the 2011 Great East Japan Earthquake and Nuclear Disaster and explores how artists simultaneously interrogate narratives of postwar industrialism in Japan and contemporary global issues concerning the ecologies of natural and man-made disasters. Her interests include Japanese Art after 1945, postwar photography, the art history of natural disasters, and landscape imagery.
