PhD Candidate Cole J. Graham Presents in Paris
PhD Candidate Cole J. Graham recently spent several weeks in Europe, where he first visited the Université Paris-Nanterre to attend a symposium arranged by the Société d’Études Modernistes. There, he delivered a talk taken from his dissertation, tentatively titled Egon Schiele and the Erotics of Disability. He also enjoyed numerous other talks, all surrounding the different manifestations of "Modernist Sex." (Cole is especially happy to report that, though he visited during the Paris heatwave, he presented in the only room with air conditioning!)
From Paris, Cole traveled to Vienna to conduct research centered on the hospitals where Egon Schiele and his contemporaries had been allowed to sketch patients. Cole is grateful to the Josephinum at the Universität Wien Institüt für Geschichte der Medizin, as well as Vienna's City and Provincial Archives, for all the help they so generously provided in sourcing such scattered records.
