PhD Candidate Karin Flora Conducts Dissertation Research in Italy
In February 2024, PhD candidate Karin Flora was able to travel to Italy to do research for her dissertation, “The Grisaille Image: Encounters Between Art and Matter.” In her time in Italy, she was able to study early modern manuscripts and archival letters related to her dissertation in the Vatican Library in Rome, the Laurentian Library in Florence, and the State Archives in Mantua. She also viewed and documented key artworks and artifacts at historical sites and museums such as patron palaces, the Vatican Museum, Uffizi, and the Palazzo Ducale in Mantua, among others.
Her research was generously funded by the Aida Cannarsa Snow Endowment Award and by the ASC Graduate Research Small Grant.
