What kinds of things do you do in your current position?
In my role as the Advancement Operations Manager at the Columbus Museum of Art, I oversee a range of functions that ensure fundraising efforts run smoothly and effectively. One of my primary responsibilities is to manage the daily gift entry and acknowledgment process, which involves recording contributions in our database to guarantee accuracy and reliability. Beyond just data entry, I focus on maintaining our data structures and constituent records, adhering to best practices for data management. I also collaborate closely with other members of the advancement team to support a variety of fundraising initiatives from events to exhibition sponsorships.
Are there projects or initiatives you are working on and excited about?
Currently, I am particularly excited about an initiative aimed at implementing new processes for prospect management and donor profiling. This project is crucial for enhancing the museum’s overall fundraising strategy and will allow us to engage with our donors in a more meaningful and personalized way. On a broader scale, I am eagerly anticipating the 11th annual Wonderball, often described as Columbus' party of the year. It’s a wonderful opportunity to don our finest attire and celebrate the creative spirit of our community. This event not only showcases artistic talent in Columbus but also serves as a vital fundraising platform for the museum, making it a highlight of our annual calendar.
Are there particular skills that you learned from your time at Ohio State that you think are helping you succeed in your job?
My experiences in the Department of History of Art have been invaluable in shaping my professional skills and perspectives. The development of strong analytical and research skills has been essential for conducting thorough prospect research and informing fundraising strategies. The rigorous attention to detail that is emphasized in art history has proven to be incredibly beneficial when it comes to managing donor records and ensuring the accuracy of data. Beyond these technical skills, my time in the department challenged me to think critically about the role of art in society, deepening my appreciation for its accessibility and relevance. I feel grateful to contribute, even in a small way, to the mission of ensuring that art remains an integral part of our community.
