PhD Student Dareen Hussein Receives Graduate Student Writing Prize

PhD student Dareen Hussein’s essay entitled “Sounds of Subversion: Assia Djebar’s La Zerda et les chants de l’oubli” was selected as the winner of this year's Gender and Feminisms Caucus Graduate Student writing prize at the Society For Cinema and Media Studies (SCMS). Djebar’s film was screened at the Wexner Center for the Arts in March 2021 as part of the film series Signs of Remembering: Women’s Resistance in Middle Eastern and North African Documentaries, which Dareen co-organized with Layla Muchnik-Benali.
